Review: Hot Ones February 2022 Box

Cocoa Ghost by Queen Majesty

Next up in the box is Cocoa Ghost, which comes from one of our favorites in the hot sauce world, Queen Majesty. A quick look around and you’ll see we aren’t the first to share that sentiment, they simply just make great sauces. One of the fastest bottles of sauce I’ve ever emptied is their Red Habanero & Black Coffee, a sauce I couldn’t recommend enough if you’re wanting to try more from them or just add to your collection.

Anyway…back to chocolate casper. Featuring quite a unique blend of ingredients, I was super excited to dip into this sauce. I mean who doesn’t love pineapples? Cocoa? Chipotle? And this takes all of those things and squeezes them into one delicious bite.

After a quick shake, the texture of this sauce is very smooth. You can visibly see and feel some bits of the ingredients in it, but it’s easily pourable and would blend nicely into recipes. If I was feeling super adventurous one day, I think this would be killer to make into a mole sauce.

On it’s own though, there is no lacking in the flavor department. There is a slight bitterness to it, but I think that’s intended, as it balances out really well with the sweetness from the pineapple and onion. The smoky chipotle flavor is subtle but nice, and I’m thinking maybe using this as a marinade for grilled chicken will be in my future weekend plans.

QM labelled this sauce as “Very Hot” on the bottle, while Heatonist gives it a 6/10. Here’s the thing with hot sauce, everyone has a different tolerance, so either could be true for you. For me, it definitely lives in that middle of the road area. The heat is balanced, and it sticks around for a bit, but it’s that type of burning linger where your mouth waters and you just want to keep eating it.

This type of sauce is always a welcome addition to my hot sauce mini-fridge (yes, I have a fridge just for hot sauces). It’s flavorful and has enough heat to kick up easy everyday type meals.
